Description / Abstract:
PURPOSE OF THE GUIDELINES
These design guidelines include provisions for considering the
effects of temperature on reinforced and prestressed concrete
bridge superstructures. Temperature effects result from
time-dependent fluctuations in the effective bridge temperature or
from temperature differentials within the bridge superstructure.
All concrete bridges should be designed for temperature effects
resulting from time-dependent fluctuations in the effective bridge
temperature. For serviceability considerations, prestressed
concrete bridges should also be designed for the effects of
temperature differentials within the bridge superstructure.
