Description / Abstract:
This standard applies primarily to airborne sound produced by
apparatus which normally operates in air. These sounds must be
nonimpulsive and of sufficient duration to be within the dynamic
measuring capabilities of the instrumenta used.
This standard applies primarily to apparatus which radiates sound as a by-product of its primary function. However, the general principles apply also to other sources of sound.
If the microphone used to perform the sound pressure level measurementa is immersed in a moving air stream of appreciable velocity, or exposed to high temperatures or other adverse local environmental conditions, special precautions must be taken, a discussion of which is beyond the scope of this standard.
